Robert C. Weems collection, 1887-2000 bulk 1956-1978

A compilation of materials related to the history of the College of Business Administration (COBA) and business and economics education and research at the University of Nevada, Reno. Assembled by dean emeritus of the college Robert C. Weems, the collection was used as research material for a history of the college, "Business for Nevada: The College of Business Administration at the University of Nevada, 1887-2000", published in 2001. The collection is comprised of a wide variety of materials related to early business education at the university; COBA administration and curriculum and program development; and professional activities of Dr. Weems and COBA faculty and students within the university and the local and state business community. The types of records include correspondence, memoranda, reports, minutes, and other COBA administrative records; university and college publications, press releases, and promotional material; newspaper and magazine clippings; conference and event programs and related items; and miscellaneous personal material. The bulk of the records fall within Dr. Weems' tenure as dean, 1956-1977.

In 1956 Robert C. Weems was appointed dean of the University of Nevada's newly created College of Business Administration. A Mississippi native, Weems had joined the faculty of the School of Business at Mississippi State University as an instructor after receiving his M.B.A. from Northwestern University.
